Centralizing localization: How 24me and GroupCal optimized their translation workflow with POEditor

24me is a personal assistant app that helps users manage their time and tasks more efficiently. The idea behind this business was improve people’s quality of life and the people who put things into motion also came up with GroupCal, a shared calendar platform designed to simplify scheduling and collaboration for both individuals and businesses.

Thus, both of these two apps strive to help users with their time management and act as a personal assistant to people all around the world.

In order to achieve these goals, 24me and GroupCal were meticulously developed by entrepreneurs, technology experts and UI/UX specialists. Later on, they started looking for a platform that would handle their localization process and they ultimately found a partner in POEditor.

Challenges

When choosing POEditor as their preferred localization management platform, they had three main objectives in mind: to achieve a centralized string management, to have a convenient way to gather their translators in a single place and offer them a user-friendly platform that would facilitate their translation process and, lastly, to be able to use human translation services directly from the localization platform.

By centralized string management, the people at 24me and GroupCal meant to leave behind the lack of a unified system for storing and managing localization strings and found that POEditor offered a number of Git hosting integrations that would be of help for them. In particular, they are using the GitLab and the Bitbucket integrations, through which they can pull/push strings directly to their repos.

Another pain point was the difficulty of collaborating with external translators and therefore creating a viable collaboration process. Furthermore, they were also looking for human translators outside of their own established team and for more professional human translation services as well.

Solutions

It seems like POEditor ticked all these boxes and provided the means through which these two apps would have a centralized localization workflow and also enhance the collaboration between the team members involved in this process.

Having in mind that both apps are available on the AppStore and Google Play, the team at 24me and GroupCal found in POEditor a suitable ally which would allow them to localize their iOS strings, as well as their Android ones. Supporting language files from both platforms – XML for Android and .stringsXLIFF and XCstrings for iOS – POEditor provided 24me and GroupCal a means to streamline the translation process while increasing transparency, collaboration and automation.

Our platform’s integrations and user-friendly interface proved to be the ideal solution for these two apps. With GitLab and Bitbucket, they were able to easily transfer the content of their files between the projects hosted on POEditor and their repositories. Moreover, the Git service integrations also offer extra functionalities, such as webhooks and PR presets, that can significantly aid in streamlining the workflow.

GroupCal POEditor localization case study

As far as collaboration is concerned, the team found the process of „using contributors much easier than before” with our platform. We believe that high-quality translations are ensured by proper teamwork and that’s the reasoning behind some of the features our platform has to offer in order to enhance collaboration: the comments system, the UI notification system, POEditor teams and POEditor organizations.

The team also mentioned that one of their desires was „to be able to use translation services connected to the localization platform”. This is exactly what they found with POEditor, a human translation module that would offer their projects a touch of expertise and professional work. With our two integrated language services providers, Gengo and TextMaster, they ensured high-quality and contextually accurate translations for both of their platforms.

Conclusion

By leveraging our platform’s powerful features, 24me and GroupCal have greatly enhanced their localization process. POEditor’s Git hosting integrations, intuitive interface and seamless collaboration with external translators and language service providers have enabled them to deliver localized apps to a wider global audience.
