Where Crowdin may be the better choice

Crowdin has Translation Memory from the Free plan (albeit by using it you agree to donate translations to Crowdin's TM). It has 700+ marketplace integrations, adds HIPAA on top of ISO 27001 and GDPR, and a large open-source community. If your team needs HIPAA or leans on Crowdin's marketplace its depth may justify the higher entry point. POEditor is the stronger choice when integration access, billing simplicity and a lower entry price matter most.

Who gets to be involved

Who gets to contribute shouldn't be a budget decision.

Crowdin's seat model does more than affect your bill — it shapes who you're willing to involve in localization at all. When every contributor is a line item, you start making decisions about who gets access based on cost rather than need.

POEditor's unlimited contributor model is a product philosophy, not a pricing trick. Anyone you assign to a project can contribute. There are no seat negotiations, no access tiers, no reason to limit who's involved.

  • Unlimited contributors on all paid plans — no per‑seat charges
  • Contributors don't need their own POEditor subscription
  • Invite translators, developers, reviewers, and community members freely
  • Open source projects get unlimited free strings — OSI‑approved licenses qualify

The three biggest gaps

Where POEditor pulls ahead

Teams evaluating POEditor will find three key differentiators compared to Crowdin.

01

The entry price is 3× lower

Crowdin's Pro plan — the first with unlimited private projects and team features — is $50/mo. POEditor's Start plan is $17, with the same core workflow. Full integration access and all file formats on Crowdin require Team+ at $450/mo.

POEditor $17/mo Start plan. Full Git integrations, all file formats.
Crowdin $50/mo Pro plan. 2 integrations, 5 file formats.
02

Fewer billing variables

Both gate features by tier. Beyond that, POEditor adds one variable: string count. Crowdin adds two — hosted words (source words × target languages) and manager seats — so you manage three independent meters as you grow.

POEditor Tier + strings. Two variables to track.
Crowdin Tier + hosted words + manager seats. Three variables.
03

Full Git integrations without tier climbing

Crowdin caps integrations per plan: 1 Free, 2 Pro, 3 Team. Self-hosted Git is "Enterprise" — Team+ at $450/mo only. POEditor gives you GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps on Start ($17/mo), all file formats, no cap.

POEditor All Git integrations from $17/mo. Azure DevOps included.
Crowdin Enterprise integrations from $450/mo. Formats capped by tier.
Pricing predictability

See the cost before the commit.

Both platforms publish prices. What differs is how many dimensions scale independently — and how much you pay before connecting more than a handful of integrations.

Client sentiment

What real users are saying about POEditor

These are actual quotes gleaned from the users of our localization platform over time.

Value for money

POEditor is a great tool. It's easy to use and offers great support experience. I really like the value for money, it works perfectly for what we need. And what I like most is the fact that the customer support is so helpful. All the feedback I gave until now has been taken into account.

Scalability

At Remato, we adopted POEditor from day one and have no regrets at all. It's a solid translation management platform that's always done what we need. We manage 19 languages, 2000+ unique words, and 40,000+ total strings and we ship new features each month, so managing translation in a cost-effective manner is critical. This is where POEditor helps us.

Collaboration & integration

POEditor is a super-well designed and user-friendly software to manage your localization files. It is a breeze to set up the localization projects and involve the other team members in them. Integration with GitHub is great for importing the base file, and integration with Slack is great for keeping the team in the loop when there are new terms to translate.

Questions teams ask before migrating

POEditor builds Translation Memory automatically from the translations you import. Once your files are over from Crowdin, your TM populates from day one.

Contributors join POEditor projects by invitation and don't need paid accounts. There are no role seat caps or per-seat charges — your whole team joins at no extra cost.

Most teams migrate themselves in a day or two. Export as XLIFF, JSON or PO from Crowdin, import into POEditor, point your CI at the new project. Support will walk you through the first import.

After 10 days your account moves to the Free plan — 1,000 strings, unlimited projects, 5 contributors. Your data stays intact. Upgrade when you're ready. No credit card is collected during the trial.

All common localization formats with no per-plan cap: PO, JSON, XLIFF, Strings, YAML, RESX, ARB, Android XML and more. On Crowdin, formats are capped at 3 (Free), 5 (Pro), 15 (Team) — unlimited only from Team+ at $450/mo.

Aside from "classic" machine translation integrations (Google Translate, DeepL, Microsoft Translate), POEditor supports Gen AI LLM models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google. including custom ones. Bring your own API key and set a custom prompt per project. AI translation is available on all plans, including Free, and is fully supported by automated Workflows.

Yes. POEditor is ISO 27001 certified and GDPR compliant, hosted on its own EU infrastructure with controlled access. Data is secured in transit and sensitive info encrypted at rest, with regular third-party penetration tests. 2FA on all plans, audit logs from Plus ($51/mo), SSO/SAML on Enterprise ($221/mo).

Yes. Software with an OSI-approved license qualifies for free localization. Create a project and submit the Open Source Request in project settings — no need to contact anyone.

Yes. GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps are all available from the Start plan ($17/mo). On Crowdin, self-hosted and enterprise Git require Team+ at $450/mo.

Worth knowing: Crowdin's hosted word count equals source words × target languages. 10,000 source words across 10 languages = 100,000 hosted words. POEditor counts strings per language added — simpler to track, though scaling costs apply on both sides.
