If you want to translate an app that uses language files such as .strings<\/a>, .xliff<\/a>, .resx<\/a>, .xml<\/a> or .properties<\/a> with the software localization management platform POEditor, it’s very likely your localization process will be a little different than if you were using any of the other supported language files. This is because these language files contain labels.<\/p>\n

As a developer\/localization manager\/someone\u00a0else handling a labels-based project with POEditor, you will start your software localization process\u00a0by importing strings from a\u00a0language file and setting a Default Reference Language<\/a>.

\nBecause you\u00a0may\u00a0update your app from time to time, you may also\u00a0need to update\u00a0some translations in your localization project’s Default Reference Language, to keep the strings between the app and the POEditor localization platform synced. If this happens, you will want to inform contributors\u00a0about this change, so they will\u00a0check that the translations in the other languages still correspond to the updated texts\u00a0(i.e.<\/em> the translations in the Default Reference Language that you updated, that you display across the localization project as terms, instead of labels).<\/p>\n

So, in case this happens, you can maintain\u00a0a smooth\u00a0localization workflow following these steps:<\/p>\n

Step 1: Update the\u00a0translations in the software localization project<\/h4>\n

You can do this in two ways:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Using the Import in the Project Page:\u00a0On the Project Page, click\u00a0on Import Terms\u00a0<\/strong>in the side menu, pick the\u00a0language file that you want to use, select the option Also import\u00a0translations in…<\/strong>, select the Default Reference Language (English in the\u00a0screenshot) and then check the box to overwrite old translations<\/strong>.\u00a0Another option will immediately appear, to\u00a0mark corresponding translations from the other languages as fuzzy for the updated values – <\/strong>also check that one and press Import to project.

    • Using the Import in the Language Page:\u00a0Go to the Language Page of the Default Reference Language set on your software localization project. Click on\u00a0Import Translations<\/strong> in the side menu, mark that you want to\u00a0overwrite existing translations <\/strong>and\u00a0to\u00a0mark corresponding translations from the other languages as fuzzy for the updated values\u00a0<\/strong>and press Import translations<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Step 2: Notify the contributors about the updated translations<\/h4>\n

      Use the Notify Contributors button in the side menu on the Project Page to tell contributors on a project level to review the fuzzy translations in the languages they\u00a0are\u00a0assigned to. Contributors can then filter the translations in any Language Page so that the POEditor localization platform only shows the\u00a0Fuzzy <\/strong>translations.\u00a0This way, the updated\u00a0translations in the Default Referance Language will be evident.<\/p>\n

      After reviewing a\u00a0fuzzy translation, any contributor (or anyone in the project)\u00a0can use the Toggle Fuzzy Translation<\/strong> button (F <\/b>button\u00a0<\/b>next to the translation) in the Language Page to remove the fuzzy flag.<\/p>\n

      As a final consideration, keep in mind that you must be the owner of the software localization project, or one of its admins, to be able to mark as fuzzy the translations for the updated values.
